Behind the Songs: He Bled

Posted by on May 25, 2014

Turn it up Play it loud We’ve got a word we want to share with you Maybe it’s something you’ve heard a time or two But we’re praying it hits you new He bled for you He bled for me Oh how He wants us all to see You can’t escape the love He’s freely given us He bled for you ‘Cause His Word has changed our lives And we want you to know this profound truth That Jesus came to the earth for you Please believe this Word too   Romans 5:1-11 Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God. 3 Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; 4 perseverance, character; and character, hope. 5 And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us. 6 You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. 7 Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. 8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. 9 Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through him! 10 For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life! 11 Not only is this so, but we also boast in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.   “Do you have any upbeat, happy songs?” asked an inquisitive family member. Her question got us to thinking, “Hmmm … do we have a song that makes you want to move to the groove?” So we began pondering that and trying to create a little jive. Within no time, the Lord gave Kert a musical melody on the piano. He played the melody for weeks … and weeks … and weeks...

Behind the Songs: By Faith

Posted by on May 12, 2014

The radiance of His glory The image of His nature Your powerful word sustains the whole world You purified the sinner You sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven above You are the Promised One By faith, we will live today By faith, we will face tomorrow No shrinking back or wavering ‘Cause You’re the Son of God You are the King This world is temporary You’ve prepared the perfect sanctuary And we’ll worship You throughout eternity Hebrews 1:1-4 In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, 2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe. 3 The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.  Hebrews 10:36-39  You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised. 37 For, “In just a little while, He who is coming will come and will not delay.” 38 And, “But my righteous one will live by faith. And I take no pleasure in the one who shrinks back.” 39 But we do not belong to those who shrink back and are destroyed, but to those who have faith and are saved. Our church was walking through the book of Hebrews together.  It was an incredible journey as we learned about the greatness of God through His Son Jesus Christ.  We learned about the confidence we have in drawing near to God because Jesus is the Messiah, the perfect High Priest who offered Himself as the last and final sacrifice for all sin, for all people. He’s the One; the one the prophets of old spoke of; He’s the One our forefathers waited for! As Kert was preparing songs for Sunday’s service, he couldn’t ignore the Lord’s encouragement to write a song to compliment the sermon. While he was at work on a Wednesday morning, the Lord began inspiring Kert with music and lyrics. He called Kerry and said, “I feel like the Lord’s giving me a song. What do you think about working on...

Behind the Songs: I Remember

I remember I remember I remember all that You have done for me You have forgiven all of my sin and heal all of my disease You redeemed my life from the pit and crown me with Your great love You made known Your ways to Moses and still speak to me today You are gracious to Your people Forever is Your favor I remember  I remember I remember all that You have done for me Psalm 103:1-2  Praise the Lord, my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits … Deuteronomy 8:11-14 Be careful that you do not forget the Lord your God, failing to observe his commands, his laws and his decrees that I am giving you this day. Otherwise, when you eat and are satisfied, when you build fine houses and settle down,  and when your herds and flocks grow large and your silver and gold increase and all you have is multiplied, then your heart will become proud and you will forget the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.  One year we did a “Read through the Bible in a Year” together. It was an amazing experience to share! While we read through the Old Testament, we were struck by how many times the Lord told His people, the Israelites, to remember the Lord. God wanted them to intentionally remind themselves of where they had come from, what He had done for them, and then teach future generations. We were also struck by the Israelites’ relationship with the Lord when they would forget the Lord. They would turn away and trust in their own ways or even turn to idols! We realized that we are no different today. As a result, the Lord has given us a huge desire to remember what He has done for us. This includes the obvious gift of salvation through Jesus Christ all the way to meeting our smallest, practical needs. Our family keeps a piece of paper on our refrigerator door to list the different ways the Lord has worked in our lives. It is such blessing to look at our fridge every day and be reminded that God is real and He has done great things for us! One day on a long road trip, we were...
