On the Radio

Posted by on Dec 10, 2013

Wow! What a day! We woke up at 5:00 this morning with great excitement to get the day started. Today we would venture into an arena that we had never been before and we wanted to feel prepared. We were venturing out onto the air waves. That’s right, the radio. CRAZY! When we began the CD recording process, we were asked all the time, “So, what do you want to do with your record? Do you want it to make it big and get on the radio?” We always navigated that conversation cautiously. We didn’t want to make anything happen. We just wanted to be obedient and follow where the Lord led us. If He led it to the radio, we would go there, but we weren’t going to spin our wheels trying to make things happen. Well, a Christian radio station that covers our West Texas area had been encouraged by quite a few people to listen to our music. Those same people all strongly encouraged Kert to meet with the broadcaster Gary. Kert and Gary met up and had a pleasant meeting, and then he invited us over for an interview and to introduce a couple of our songs. We have been super excited! We conducted a small poll on our facebook page to ask our friends what songs we should play on the radio. The overwhelming majority said “By Faith.” We braved the icy streets and the 14 degree weather to get there for our 7:40 air time. Before we went on, Gary asked us what songs we would like to introduce on the radio. We said “Victory Has Come” per our producer’s recommendation and “By Faith” per our unofficial facebook poll. We had fun with the interview; then Gary played “Victory Has Come.” It was surreal to hear this broadcaster’s voice introducing one of our songs! We had another little moment of interviewing, and then he wanted to play another one of our songs. However, he didn’t play “By Faith.” Gary said he really enjoyed the groove to “He Bled” and per his personal request, he decided to play that one instead. We are great with that. Gary knows music and he knows what his listening audience will enjoy. So that’s how “Victory Has Come” and “He Bled” ended up being the first two songs introduced on the radio this morning. Now the question is “How do...

A Lot of Whispering

Posted by on Nov 20, 2013

As you know, our CD release celebration is quickly approaching. Only one more day! This is how we feel about it: — Excited — Can’t believe this is really happening — Nervous — Giddy We have waited for a long time for this opportunity,  and we have seen the Lord do miraculous things throughout this process. 1.) He woke us up one morning in June and told us to call a studio; we did, and we got on their schedule. This happened all in one morning. We had waited years to simply find a studio that would let us step foot into it. 2.) In July we had only 4 weeks to raise $15,000 to pay for the record. The Lord did above and beyond that. 3.) He gave us a friend at the right time to help us launch this website. 4.) He provided amazing care for our kids while we were gone a week to record. Should we keep going? 5.) He provided a free place for us to stay the entire week we were recording. 6.) He provided an excellent photographer who took our album pictures for free. 7.) He gave us inspiration for the album artwork. As a result, we saved hundreds and hundreds of dollars. The list goes on and on. The Lord has proven over and over that He is directing this adventure, and it’s been fun and amazing to enjoy the ride. So why are there whispers? All the whispering is coming from Kerry. Yesterday she woke up with a slightly sore throat and a scratchy “man voice.” By the end of the day, her voice was reduced to nothing but whispering. With the CD release only a day away, we’re sure you can understand our brief pause for concern. The CD Release Celebration is the BIG event where we have the opportunity to share what the Lord has done; to share His Word and what He has taught us and to share our songs. Sooo … why is Kerry’s voice gone? Not just a little gone, but big gone. We don’t know, but we do know that the Lord knows and He’s got this. He has given us exactly what we needed at the perfect time thus far, and we have no doubt that He will continue to provide for us at the right time. We wait with great anticipation to see what...
