Behind the Songs: By Faith
The radiance of His glory
The image of His nature
Your powerful word sustains the whole world
You purified the sinner
You sat down at the right hand
of the Majesty in heaven above
You are the Promised One
By faith, we will live today
By faith, we will face tomorrow
No shrinking back or wavering
‘Cause You’re the Son of God
You are the King
This world is temporary
You’ve prepared the perfect sanctuary
And we’ll worship You throughout eternity
Hebrews 1:1-4 In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, 2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe. 3 The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.
Hebrews 10:36-39 You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised. 37 For, “In just a little while, He who is coming will come and will not delay.” 38 And, “But my righteous one will live by faith. And I take no pleasure in the one who shrinks back.” 39 But we do not belong to those who shrink back and are destroyed, but to those who have faith and are saved.
Our church was walking through the book of Hebrews together. It was an incredible journey as we learned about the greatness of God through His Son Jesus Christ. We learned about the confidence we have in drawing near to God because Jesus is the Messiah, the perfect High Priest who offered Himself as the last and final sacrifice for all sin, for all people. He’s the One; the one the prophets of old spoke of; He’s the One our forefathers waited for!
As Kert was preparing songs for Sunday’s service, he couldn’t ignore the Lord’s encouragement to write a song to compliment the sermon. While he was at work on a Wednesday morning, the Lord began inspiring Kert with music and lyrics. He called Kerry and said, “I feel like the Lord’s giving me a song. What do you think about working on it during lunch?” Kerry excitedly said, “Of course!” After getting the kids set up at the table for lunch, we sat down at the piano together to complete the song. It came together quickly! Supernaturally fast! Then that evening the worship band learned it, and it became the theme for the remainder of our study in Hebrews. It was an incredible moment of seeing the Lord quickly and clearly give us the words He wanted us to proclaim!
During that time, “By Faith” kind of became the anthem of our church. Because that song served our church family so much and also because it has been our journey through the recording process, it became the title track of our album.
