Behind the Songs: In God
Satan prowls like a roaring lion
I will put my trust in God
There is peace for the worried
There is hope for tomorrow
Joy in the sorrow
Fully proving where it lies
Just as gold drenched by the blazing flames
So I will be purified
But my joy remains the same
The One who gives me strength
1 Peter 5:8-9 Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.
1 Peter 1:3-9 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you, 5 who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time. 6 In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. 7 These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. 8 Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, 9 for you are receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls.
We sat down and wrote this song a week after our daughter Rylee was born. We were overwhelmed by God’s provision in our lives through childbirth, health, meals from our church family, etc.
A few days leading up to our baby girl Rylee’s birth, Kerry and our oldest daughter Taylor became sick. We were pretty concerned that this may impact the labor and delivery that we had scheduled. We knew that God was in control. If He wanted to to rearrange our plans, He would. If He wanted to take our baby girl, He would. Ultimately she was His! We had peace, hope, and joy through this test of faith. It was an opportunity for us to rest in God and watch Him move. God began a melody in Kert’s heart and then gave us both words to go with the musical melody. Our joy, hope and strength is found in Christ.
This song has undergone various changes. One of those changes included the title. We originally did not have a title for it so we temporarily labeled it “Hope, Joy, Life.” After reshaping the chorus, we decided “In God” was a better fit.
This song is meant to encourage our brothers and sisters in their faith as we encounter difficulties, struggles and the World’s brokenness.
